Here are some common questions and answers that every voter should know about Chris Baier.
What’s the role of mayor in Hideout?
The mayor is responsible to effectively manage the town administration, which includes Public Works (water, sewer, storm drain, roads); the Clerk/Recorders Office; and departments including Building, Planning, Engineering, Legal, and Administration. The mayor also presides as chair of all town council meetings.
What’s your experience in Hideout town government?
I currently serve as permanent Mayor Pro Tem, by resolution of the town council. I’m also the senior-most elected member of town council, currently in my 8th year of service. Plus, I’ve served on several important committees. I’m the founder of the the Hideout Trails committee that created the Keetley and Wada Way trails many of you enjoy at Jordanelle State Park.
Beyond your experience, what qualifications do you bring?
Before my life in town government, I led the implementation of large-scale IT projects for Fortune 1000 companies. It taught me how to align stakeholders, define a clear plan, manage resources, and inspire people to act. I use those skills every day to accomplish big things for Hideout.
How will you govern?
In our tightknit community, I’ll be a leader who listens to and represents everyone here. If you attend a council meeting, you’ll see I’m a person who fights for fairness.
As mayor, I’ll go even further: seeking more public participation in our process, making our council meetings more accessible, and transforming town operations to better respond to your questions and concerns.
What are the biggest barriers to achieving Hideout’s goals? How will you overcome them?
Our small town is surprisingly complex. We have our own regulations and systems to manage. Plus, we need to coordinate with Hideout HOAs, county, state and private resources on many of our biggest initiatives.

I’ve been engaged with Hideout and its town government since the original, master developer was in charge. I have deep history on what we’ve tried, what’s worked, and what’s failed. I know the people and processes that get things moving forward. I feel my ability to navigate that complexity is one of my greatest advantages as a candidate.
How are you similar or different vs. your mayoral opponent?
My opponent shares my passion for making Hideout a great community. And we agree that development—getting more of the good kind, and none of the bad kind—is vital to our town’s future.
My opponent is very concerned about the legal fees the town incurs, often fighting developers’ lawsuits. While I agree we shouldn’t spend more than we need to, I believe these legal fees can be a smart investment to protect the integrity of our community and the value of residents’ homes. I have a strong track record of coming to the table to collaborate with developers on solutions. But I also know when not to back down.
I believe we can offset some of these legal costs by strong code enforcement. We charge builders’ fines for excessive trash, noise and other building violations. I’ll work to develop a system to better capture violations and collect monies owed.
